With Paris at its heart, the region is a must for all visitors to France – the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Arc De Triomphe, Pompidou Centre, Sacre Coeur and Montmartre are all unmissable.

Culture abounds in the region, with the Louvre Museum, Versailles Château, Orsay Museum, Saint-Denis Basilica and the Fontainebleau Château to name just a few of the world-class museums and historic sites.

For children, there is culture of a different kind with famous theme parks, including Disneyland Paris, the Playmobil Funpark and the Asterix theme park.

Paris is the world centre of fashion - or so the Parisians believe - and shopping is practically compulsory, whether you choose the upmarket boutiques, the markets or the many department stores.

The choice of nighttime entertainment is almost too great, but take in a review or an opera for the real Paris experience; or head to one of the many nightclubs.
