Brittany
The far northwest region of France, Brittany juts into the Atlantic with a long jagged coastline. Along its coast white-sand beaches lie next to rugged cliffs, ancient fishing villages next to popular seaside resorts.
Brittany’s mild climate results in a lush landscape in the interior of the region. Its woodland areas are the remains of what was once a massive forest covering the whole region.
In the far west, the ancient Celtic culture of the Bretons is flourishing, with the locals wearing traditional dress and playing Celtic music.
As for food, the most famous Breton cuisine is undoubtedly the pancake. Try a savoury galette, served as a ‘complète’ with ham, cheese and eggs, or a sweet crepe, with butter and sugar. If pancakes aren’t your thing, Brittany’s seafood platters are a feast.
